“Employees who know what to expect from their company’s culture and work environment make better decisions that are more aligned with the accepted practices of the company.” ~ Amber Hyatt
Two vital components of building a successful staff are:
1) Onboarding = a process of welcoming, educating, connecting and acculturing
2) Staff training & development = on the job skill building and comprehension of company systems and processes

Onboarding
❌ — onboarding is a process that can last from 6 months up to 1 year.
Your onboarding of a new hire is not complete until the employee demonstrates that they are a productive team member that can navigate autonomously the day-to-day rigors of the business.
ie. They are making decisions that are in alignment with the company values and mission, and this results in them generating consistent client results, client renewals, and referrals.
Problem: most businesses don’t utilize an onboarding system/process and if they do it’s usually only for a matter of days or a couple of weeks at most.
So, this leaves new hires unprepared and feeling incompetent which leads to the employee searching for better employment options.
However, if you develop a “map” 🗺 that outlines the components for onboarding into First Day, First Week, First Month, and First Year and the items they need to be proficient in respectively.
This will give you a better understanding of your own business and will give the employee a higher probability of success in your organization.
Training
❌ — Staff Training is a process that teaches your new hire all about the technical in’s and out’s of the business and the unique systems that you’ve developed to make the business run smoothly.
This includes policies and procedures, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), your training methodology, etc.
Staff training is important for the sole reason that you want a product and service that is delivered according to your standards and values.
It ensures you will have a team approach and every employee speaks the same “language” for all functions within your business.
Problem: most businesses simply create a handbook, deliver a few shadow sessions, and turn the new hire loose without them having complete knowledge of the biz.
Furthermore, the training is not standardized and delivered consistently for all new hires, which creates confusion and ultimately mistakes on the part of the employees.
By putting your training system into a deliverable content platform that can be consumed by the new hire at their speed, you will have eliminated the need for you to repeat yourself with each new hire and ensure that the content is the same for each employee as well.
I recommend creating a membership style online course product for your staff training system so it’s done once and done the right way.
This will create more freedom for you by you not having to physically be present to train each new employee. Vital as you begin to grow and increase your footprint in your community.
