Do you know who you are?
I mean, really know at the very core of your being?
Do you know exactly what you are willing to suffer for and what you will not suffer for?
Most entrepreneurs would answer the first question with whatever profession they embody which is what they do. But it’s not who they are.
For that reason, someone who lacks self-awareness and purpose is more likely to shape their business model, and life, by what they perceive to be successful.
They set goals that they believe will make them like the person/business they see.
But they never get any deeper than the goals. Goals that were contrived without any thought to who they are and why they chose this particular path.
Self-Awareness: The Foundation for Life and Therefore Your Work
When you know yourself (what drives you, what fulfills you, etc.) it gives rise to Purpose.
Your Purpose helps you identify your values. Those things that are so important to you, you would hold to them even if no one else knew about them.
When your values are that clear, it allows you to contemplate what “might be” and thus, your Vision comes to life.
Vision paints your ideal future in your mind. Once “seen” it will fuel your passion which ultimately births your Mission.
Finally, when you’ve established your Mission, you’re able to set milestones and markers for obtaining your life’s Purpose in the form of Goals.
Getting to the CORE
So, how do we get there? To the CORE?
Simple.
When you think you’ve got it…
Keep Digging. Go Deeper.
Ask yourself the following 5 questions:
- What makes you feel really ALIVE?!
- What fires you up and gives you energy?
- How could things be different?
- What matters most to you?
- What would you like to happen?
Stay True To Yourself
You have to know who you are before you go about setting life goals. The last thing you want to do is end up living someone else’s life. Wearing the clothes they like, the cars they drive and trying to run a business like their business.
You will be left wanting because the real you is dying to be known.
Start with Self-Awareness. Give rise to your Purpose. And watch the Vision blossom into a clear and navigable path.
